Deborah L. Abber, Ph.D.
Dr. Abber is a Clinical Psychologist who specializes in the neuropsychological evaluation of children and adolescents presenting with various learning, attentional, executive functioning, academic, and psychosocial challenges.
After graduating from Brandeis University with a B.A. in psychology in 1995, Dr. Abber received her M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Michigan State University. She has been independently licensed since 2003.
As a graduate student, Dr. Abber received specialized training in neuropsychology and the assessment of children in both inpatient and outpatient settings. She completed her pre-doctoral internship and postdoctoral clinical training at South Shore Mental Health, a community mental health clinic, where she specialized in working with children and adolescents in individual and family therapy, crisis intervention, and psychological assessment. Dr. Abber completed three years of postdoctoral training in pediatric neuropsychology at the Learning Lab at Lesley University, followed by several years as a school psychologist at a private Special Education and therapeutic day school conducting evaluations with a heterogeneous population of students aged 3-22 years. Prior to establishing her private practice, Dr. Abber was an independent consultant and supervisor of interns for various agencies and organizations.
Dr. Abber’s expertise is in the neuropsychological and psychoeducational assessment of children and adolescents with diagnoses such as ADHD, neurocognitive processing deficits (e.g., processing speed, visual processing, memory deficits, and executive functioning), Learning Disorders (reading, writing, and math disabilities), Nonverbal Learning Disorder, as well as mental health concerns (e.g., depression and anxiety).
She has worked with students in various school settings (public, private, charter, home-school, special education, as well as in-patient psychiatric facilities), and she has expertise in evaluating the broad range of developmental, cognitive, learning, social, emotional, and behavioral difficulties that can impact functioning in the home and interfere with learning in the classroom and overall school success.
Currently, Dr. Abber is primarily providing evaluation and consultation services in her private practice in Westford, Massachusetts. She has periodic availability to perform assessments at an off-site location such as at a school or other setting.
